The story of Ithaca is about the journey home. It is a story of engaging together courageously, and voluntarily, in our deepest struggles to develop meaning and understanding. The challenges and tragedies we face can be bewildering and devastating, but through connection, effort, and compassion we can use our trials to build lives of greater purpose, learning, and serenity.
Ithaca gets its name from the island that was the home of the Greek hero Odysseus. Odysseus went through trials, lessons, and tragedies in his long sea journey after the Trojan War, but ultimately, through bravery, wisdom, and his willingness to trust and connect with others, he found his way back home.
Mental health struggles are the secret we all share, and are all touched by. One of the first steps back from our difficulties can be creating a connection with a therapist who understands what we are going through. Sometimes we all need someone who can walk into the frightening places beside us, let us know that we are not alone, and help us find solid ground again. Reach out, and let's begin the journey to meaning and wholeness together.
